RAVNI KOTARI WINES

„And much as Wine has play'd the infidel
And robb'd me of my Robe of Honour-well,
I often wonder what the Vintners buy
One half so precious as the goods they sell."

„ Rubáiyát“ Omar Khayyám

Wines

are made here from the fertile fields like the Nadin Mud where the drifts of the torrential stream Kličevica had been making a swamp for millenniums and that the people turned into the 350 ha of vineyards. Wines are made from the loess soil of Smilčić which had been richly farmed by our ancestors all the way back in the Neanderthal era and from the never farmed karstic stone hills which local people can tame, like the 110 ha of the stone vineyard above Korlat, and, last but not least, and in fact where it's the best, from the south slopes of the karstic hills where the vineyards soak up all the sunshine and the winds from the sea and the mountain purge and protect them from pests and diseases.

It's the climate that loves red wines, called “crna“ (black) here, and that gives robust and alcoholically strong wines but also preserves lovely acids and ravishing aromas of the Mediterranean herbs and ripe fruits. Local wines are suitable for multiannual aging and thus perfect as a memory that you can open whenever you want.
